Abstract

Expansion of Turks over the world enabled Turkish language to interact with many languages whether or not they have affinity with it in terms of their origins. It is known that the Turks throughout history had been in contact with the Chinese, the Mongolians, ancestors of the Manchus and the Tunguses and Finno-Ugric peoples. Similarities between the Turkish language and languages of the Finno-Ugric, the Manchus (Tunguses), Korean and Japanese have attracted the attention of European scientists. As a result of researches, these languages have been gathered under the titles of “Ural-Altaic” and “Altaic”. Mongolian is the most riveting one among all these languages with regards to Turkish philology as well as Turkish linguistics. This paper aims to reveal the similarities between Turkish and Mongolian languages in terms of lexis, form and syntax and to compare both languages.
