Abstract

In this study; teaching status of sound events in the Turkish course books were described. For this purpose, primarily it is focused on the place of sound events and later it is drawn attention to this tissue in its relations with other language rules. The study is document review model which is one of qualitative research methods. The determinations concerning the functioning of sound events were obtained by way of Turkish (6th, 7th and 8th classes) course books which determined to be taught in 2013-2014 academic year. In the investigated books; it is seen that sound events have not taken place when required; have not to be supported by activities; many of them have not remained at the level of adumbration; some of which have been included in the evaluation not being taught. Also it is possible to say that there has been not a union in naming the terms and this situation has not caused the complexity. As a result; sound events are basis of many issues and provide convenience in teaching other rules of the language by the providing relationship between the concepts. In the functioning of Turkish lesson; it is important to teaching of this subject should be given more space to know the properties and structure of the language.
