Triterpenes from the Leaves of <i>Rhododendron cinnabarinum</i> Hook. F.

Abstract

Petroleum ether extract of the leaves of Rhododendron cinnabarinum Hook. f. has yielded seven triterpenes of which five have been identified as friedelin, epi-friedelinol, α-amyrin, campanulin and ursolic acid occurring in 0.05, 0.08, 0.12, 0.02 and 0.3% respectively. A neutral triterpene m.p. 226° and an acidic triterpene (methyl ester mp. 232°) have also been obtained in 0.01 and 0.007% yields respectively, characterisations of which are in progress.
