Abstract

Sylvia Lucas is Clinical Professor of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center (WA, USA). She is Founder and Director of the UWMC Headache Clinic and recipient of the Wadsworth Clinical Term Professorship in Headache Research and Practice. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Pharmacy, a PhD in Physiology & Biophysics, and a MD from the School of Medicine. She did postdoctoral work in neurophysiology at the University of Washington and neurology training at the New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center and the Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center (NY, USA). She was Chief Resident in Neurology at the New York Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Washington State Neurological Society, the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society, Headache Cooperative of the Pacific and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers. She currently is a medical advisor and former board of trustee member for the Greater Northwest Chapter of the National MS Society, and editor of the MS Alliance newsletter. She is a current member of the board of directors of the Headache Cooperative of the Pacific. Research interests are in post-traumatic headache and special treatment issues of women migraineurs. She has published in journals such as Nature, Journal of Neurophysiology and Journal of Neurotrauma and was the recipient of the Harold Lamport Biomedical Research Prize. About the Author
