Abstract

This study was conducted in Algarhy physical therapy and nutrition centre to investigate and compare the effect of tripollar RF lipolysis, US cavitation and their combination (US cavitation and tripollar RF) on subcutaneous fat thickness and waist circumference in patients with abdominal adiposity. Thirty patients, and their ages ranged from 25 to 50 years. They were assigned into three groups: Group (A) (US cavitation group) Ten patient received US cavitation (AC 220 Volt. 40 KHz). Group (B) (Tripollar RF group). Ten patient received tripollar RF (AC 220 Volt .1MHZ. 50 Watts). Group (C) (combination therapy group) Ten patients received both tripollar RF and US cavitation twice. Duration and frequency of treatment sessions: - For ultrasound cavitation group: treatment was applied two sessions per week for 10 sessions, treatment duration was 40 minutes in session. - For tripollar radiofrequency group: treatment was applied 2 sessions per week for 10, treatment duration was 40 minutes in each session. All patients were assessed using ultrasonography examination and WC measurement before the initiation of the program and after the completion of the study (i.e. at the end of the 10th session) . Findings Data was treated statistically using descriptive statistics in the form of mean, standard deviation and inferential statistics in the form of MANOVA to differentiate between three groups. The level of significance for all tests was 0.05. The analysis of data revealed the following findings:- 1- There was a significant reduction of WC post treatment (89.55 ±13.62) and percentage of improvement (15.07%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (105.66 ±5.59) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (6.76%) and (C) (95.88 ±8.43) and percentage of improvement (10.57%). 2- There was a significant reduction of fat thickness of epigastric region post treatment (1.45 ±0.21) and percentage of improvement (20.76%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (1.77±0.23) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (9.7%) and (C) (1.54±0.28) and percentage of improvement (20.61%%). 3- There was a significant reduction of fat thickness of paraumblical region post treatment (2.14 ±0.27) and percentage of improvement (20.74%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (1.83±0.33) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (18.66%) and decreased than group (C) (1.78±0.37) and percentage of improvement (26.44%%). 4- There was a significant reduction of fat thickness of suprapubic region post treatment (1.94 ±0.19) and percentage of improvement (22.4%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (2.02±0.52) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (21.4%) and increased than group (C) (1.84±0.55) and percentage of improvement (16.74%). 5- There was a significant reduction of fat thickness of right lumbar region post treatment (1.46±0.25) and percentage of improvement (23.15%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (1.7±0.26) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (16.66%) and increased than group (C) (1.9±0.29) and percentage of improvement (10.37%). 6- There was a significant reduction of fat thickness of left lumbar region post treatment (1.56 ±0.3) and percentage of improvement (18.32%) increased in group (A) than group (B) (1.73±0.27) and percentage of improvement in group (B) (8.77%) and increased than group (C) (2±0.43) and percentage of improvement (14.5%). CONCLUSION The following conclusions were warranted: 1. Ultrasound cavitation has significant effect on improvement of subcutaneous fat thickness and WC in patients with abdominal adiposity. 2. Tripollar radiofrequency lipolysis has significant effect on improvement of subcutaneous fat thickness and WC in patients with abdominal adiposity. 3. Combination therapy has significant effect on improvement of subcutaneous fat thickness and WC in patients with abdominal adiposity. While comparing the results of three groups, the first one (US cavitation group) (grou
