Abstract

Two luminescence bands centered at 10 300 cm −1 and 7 000 cm −1 were observed in ZnS:Fe. The higher energy band is interpreted as due to the 3T 1 → 5E transitions within the Fe 2+ ion. Such an interpretation is supported by results of excitation measurements and by the analysis of the zero-phonon structure of this luminescence band.
