Abstract

We present here further confirmation of the excimer phosphorescence in room-temperature isooctane solutions of naphthalene and 1, n-α-naphthylalkanes. The results rule out the unsubstantiated claim by Nickel and Rodriguez Prieto that the emission is due to phosphorescence of “biacetyl or biacetyl-like” impurities sensitized by energy transfer from the triplet state of naphthalene.
