Abstract

By coupling a fractal loop resonator onto the back of a loaded-fractal loop monopole and a shorted loop, a new triple-band USB dongle antenna has been achieved and presented. The proposed antenna supports WiFi (2.4–2.5 GHz and 5.15–5.875 GHz) and WiMAX (3.4–3.6 GHz) applications. The proposed triple-band planar antenna consists of a loaded-fractal loop monopole for the 2.4 GHz band, a shorted loop for the 5.5 GHz band, and a coupled fractal loop resonator for 3.5 GHz band. The antenna has a small size of 10 × 42 × 0.8 mm3, which is suitable for USB dongle. Good return loss and omnidirectional radiation pattern characteristics have been obtained in the all three bands. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
