Abstract

Polymers with high dielectric constant (high- k ) are widely used in various electronic devices. However, the low breakdown strength greatly hinders their applications in high voltage fields. To address this issue, we herein report a unique design of trilayer polymer composites based on ferroelectric skeleton. In this design, the strong polarization of ferroelectric skeleton provides high- k , while the pure polymer layers offer high breakdown strength. Consequently, a high dielectric constant of ~ 62 at 10 kHz and a high breakdown strength of ~ 48 V/μm are concurrently obtained. This work offers an effective strategy to design high- k materials with high breakdown strength, which would also be illuminating for the design of other functional composites. • A new design of high- k epoxy composite with a trilayer structure and ferroelectric 3D Ag/Al 2 O 3 /BaTiO 3 filler skeleton is developed. • A high dielectric constant of ~ 62 at 10 kHz and a high breakdown strength of ~ 48 V/μm are concurrently obtained. • Finite element simulation is performed to clarify the breakdown behaviors of the trialyer composites.
