Abstract

The main objective of the TriHyBus project is to initiate activities connected with hydrogen utilisation in transportation sector. The project was coordinated by a team from Nuclear Research Institute Řež led by Mr. Luděk Janík. Advanced technologies were utilised in order to optimise energy flows. Primary energy source is a PEM fuel cell (50 kW). Other parts are accumulators and ultracapacitors used for recuperation. About 20 kg of pressurized hydrogen (35 MPa) can be stored in pressure vessels mounted on the bus roof. The hydrogen bus as well as the first hydrogen filling station in central Europe started operation in 2009. During test operation the efficiency of the bus was confirmed varying between 7 to 8 kg of H2/100km.
