Abstract

Trihalomethanes, or halogenated one carbonyl compounds, include a range of physical states and appearance and are all by-products of the chlorination process. Chloroform itself is a colorless liquid with a distinct sharp odor. 67-66-3 Chloroform (representative compound used here) are by-products of the chlorination process. Almost all of the chloroform used in the United States have been for chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant production, although these uses are being discontinued due to concerns about ozone depletion. Chloroform was once used as an anesthetic.
