Abstract

Reaction of potassium fluoride or tetramethylammonium fluoride with thiophosgene leads to the formation of a nucleophilic source of trifluoromethanethiolate, suitable for the preparation of trifluoromethyl aryl sulfides from activated haloaromatics. Analysis of the by-products in the system demonstrates that complex molecules with up to C 4 chains may be formed by the reaction of fluoride salts with thiophosgene.
