Naval Engineers JournalVolume 76, Issue 4 p. 513-519 TRIESTE II LIEUTENANT LAWRENCE A. SHUMAKER, LIEUTENANT LAWRENCE A. SHUMAKER USN THE AUTHOR: LIEUTENANT LAWRENCE A. SHUMAKER, USN was appointed to the Naval Academy from California, his home state and graduated in the class of 1954. He served on USS MANSFIELD (DD728), and after training at the submarine school in 1957, on the USS BONITA (SSK-3), USS RASHER (SSR-269), USS CAITMAN (SS-327) and USS CAPITAINE (AGSS-336). Since November 1963 he has been attached to the U. S. Navy Electronics Laboratory at San Diego, Calif., where he serves as Chief Pilot of Trieste II. Lieutenant Shumaker is an Honorary member in the National Geographic Society and the Propeller Club of the United States. He has received the Chicago Geographic Society Gold Medal and in 1960 was the first recipient of the Annual Award at the Richard Holbre Day Memorial Medal for Exploration and Discovery from the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences.Search for more papers by this author LIEUTENANT LAWRENCE A.
