Abstract

To the Editor: Tinea capitis (TC) is a common fungal infection in children. The most commonly involved dermatophyte fungi are Trichophyton sp (usually with endothrix-type parasitism) and Microsporum sp (usually with ectothrix-type parasitism).1 Identifying the etiological agent is important because the most appropriate treatment depends on the causal agent.2 Mycological culture of infected hair is the gold standard for the diagnosis of TC but requires around 30 days, delaying effective treatment and increasing contagion risk.
