Abstract

The aim of this study was identify the effect of Trichomonas vaginalis as risk factor for prostatic diseases. One hundred thirty samples of urine and serum were collected from adult males (30-55) year admitted to general Samarra hospital and outer laboratories, The samples were divided into four groups: Control group(C): eighty specimens of urine and serum from healthy individuals. Group1(G1): twenty specimens of urine and serum from patients infected with Trichomonas vaginalis which diagnosis with directed examination and by culture on liquid medium by modified diamond media in urine. Group2(G2): fifteen samples of serum and urine from patients with prostatic diseases. Group3(G3): fifteen specimens of urine and serum from patients with prostatic diseases and Trichomonosis. Serum prostatic specific antigen–PSA, Total acid phosphatase –TCP and prostatic acid phosphatase –PAP and sex hormones(luteinizing hormone-LH, prolactin-POL, testosterone and follicle stimulating hormone-FSH) were estimated for all specimens of the four groups. The results showed that the concentration of PSA was significantly elevated (P≤ 0.05) in G1, G2 and G3 comparing with C, and no significant change in the concentrations of TCP and PAP in G1,G2 and G3 comparing with C. Otherwise the concentration of testosterone is significantly decreased (P≤ 0.05) in G1, G2 and G3 as comparing with control group, with no significant difference in the concentration of LH,FSH and Prol. From all the results we can conclude that the infection with Trichomonas vaginalis may be effect to the prostatic tissues and then cause prostatic diseases.
