Abstract

Background: Trichogerminoma is a rare benign follicular tumor with differentiation toward the hair germ. Since the first introduction of 14 cases of trichogerminoma by Sau et al in 1992^1, there were only three cases have been reported until now^2-3. Aim and objectives: We presented one case of trichogerminoma on the lower pubic area of a Mongolian man, which had not been reported of such location or race, and a review of the relevant literatures will also be highlighted. Materials and Methods: A 65-year-old Mongolian man had one nodule of 1cm in size on his lower pubic area for several years. We performed excisional biopsy and histologically diagnosed the lesion with trichogerminoma. Results:Post-operative course was smooth. There was no recurrence after three years follow-up. Conclusion: Trichogerminoma is a rare benign skin adnexal tumor within the spectrum of hair germ tumors. Complete excision of the tumor is a prior choice of treatment. Classical pathological findings are the definitely diagnosis. The entity of trichogerminoma exists without doubt by the identifiable morphodifferentiation in comparison with trichoblastoma. We can not treat trichogerminoma as a fabricated concept just because its rareness. (J Taiwan Soc of Plast Surg 2012;21:230~235)
