Abstract

In this study the wear maps have been obtained and considered for evaluation of the abrasive wear performance for ABS and Nylon 6 composite. The Nylon 6 composite was tailored using Al 30% and Al2O3 10% as a reinforced materials. In this work, the influence of filler materials, sliding distance and applied loading values on abrasive wear performance of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and Nylon 6 composite were evaluated. The test samples have been prepared with fused deposition modeling (FDM) process and the experimental abrasive wear tests were carried out at atmospheric condition using pin-on-disc rig arrangement according to ASTM standard. Tests were performed under 5, 10, 15 and 20 N load values, sliding velocity of 0.63 m/s and SiC abrasion surface (600 grit). Wear maps were obtained and the results reported that the lowest wear rate and specific wear rate is for Nylon 6 composite. Furthermore, the results also highlighted that the higher is the applied load and the sliding distance, the higher is the wear rate. Finally it is also concluded that the developed Composite material has high wear resistance capabilities due to the reinforcement of Al and Al2O3 in Nylon6 matrix.
