Abstract

Hard chrome plating are commonly used in automobile, aerospace and nuclear industries. Hardness, wear and corrosion resistance of chrome plated component is high. However, there are environmental issues concerning chemical processing. Chrome plating can be replaced by WO-CO coating. The objective of this work is to fabricate both coatings and compare their tribological and mechanical properties. Spray coating is used to fabricate WO-CO layer and conventional route is chosen to fabricate chrome plated specimen. It is observed that WO-CO coating gives much lower coefficient of friction under 20 N, 25 N and 30 N load. The wear rate of the WO-CO coating is less compared to EHC coating.
