Abstract

The amorphous chromium (a-Cr) coatings with thickness of 50 μm were electrodeposited from Cr(III) instead of Cr(VI) bath. The electrochemical and tribological behaviors of the a-Cr coatings in the ionic liquid were investigated. Possessing high hardness, steady passive film, and few grain boundary structures, the a-Cr coatings exhibit much better corrosion and wear resistance compared with Fe, Cu, and nanocrystalline Cr coatings under the ionic liquid lubrication. © 2007 The Electrochemical Society.
