Abstract
The uses of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites have growth potential in lots of structural, industrial, automotive, and engineering applications. Polymer matrix composites have become one of the materials most likely to replace the traditional substances, metals, and woods. Moving these changes forward requires analyzing the tribological behavior of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites in terms of friction and wear of composite substances This chapter evaluates the effects of various operating parameters and material parameters on wear and frictional behavior of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites. Operating parameters, such as sliding velocity, sliding distance, sliding load, and temperature, and material parameters, like a fiber volume fraction, the orientation of fibers, fiber length, filler content material, and surface treatments, have large effects on the tribological behavior of composite materials. The wear properties of fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites are controlled by including the proper quantity of filler content material and fiber orientation.
