Abstract

This work evaluates the tribocorrosion performance of wear resistant Fe and Ni-base coatings in CO2 anoxic environment. The six selected materials provide a wide overview of representative compositions and coating deposition techniques. While their separate corrosion or wear behavior has been previously addressed, knowledge about their tribocorrosion behavior is scarce and limited to atmospheric conditions. The results obtained under well-controlled electrochemical conditions using a unique developed apparatus show a superior performance of Ni-base coatings. Sliding significantly alters the open circuit potential of Fe-base coatings in contrast to Ni-base coatings. The conclusions emphasize the subordinate role of hardness in tribocorrosion performance.
