Abstract

A tri-band frequency selective surface (FSS) is presented for Ku and Ka bands for space communications. The FSS is designed to be transparent in the frequency range 10.7 GHz–12.05 GHz and to provide total reflection at 20 GHz and 30 GHz, Ku- and Ka-band in satellite communications, respectively. A single square ring with two pairs of dipoles are used in each FSS unit cell to obtain this performance. The simulation of the transmission and reflection coefficients for the proposed FSS, under normal and oblique TE and TM incidences, show satisfactory results for the reflection and transmission bands with a stable frequency response at oblique incidence angles.
