Abstract
Earlier the tribal population were marginalized and resided in the remote areas of the nation but with the process of modernization efforts by the government is being taken to assimilate the tribal population in the mainstream population. Article 15 of the Constitution of India guarantees reservation in the Education Sector for the students belonging to Scheduled Tribes. Several steps are being taken by the government to uplift the economic conditions of the tribal society which have been long struck with poverty. These steps by the government on face of it looks necessary but it is also creating significant damages to the Tribal Culture and Heritage. The long existent tussle between the government building dams and other welfare projects, causing displacement of the indigenous tribal population is one of the many instances.
