Abstract

The effect of triaxial deformation is studied on the energy spectra and the electromagnetic transitions of the odd- Z rare-earth nuclei with mass number A≈160. Using a particle-rotor model in which one quasiparticle in the h 11 2 proton orbit is coupled with the triaxial rotor, we analyze all available experimental data of the negative-parity yrast states in the region of angular momentum below the first band-crossing. The triaxial deformation parameter γ is determined to be nearly constant for the Lu isotopes, while it decreases for the N=90 isotones as Z increases. The variation of γ-values obtained is qualitatively in agreement with the previous theoretical expectation.
