Abstract

Summary There is great uncertainty connected to the definition and recognition of the Skagerrak and Smith Bank formations in the Central North Sea. However, the observations from well logs integrated with seismic lines described below, suggest that these two formations can be time equivalent. In seismic lines, the Triassic succession can be divided into two seismic units based on the seismic character: Seismic Unit 1 is characterized by chaotic and discontinuous reflectors, and it is located at the base of the salt mini-basins. Seismic Unit 2 is characterized by continuous, parallel reflectors in the upper part of the mini-basins.
