Abstract

Triamiphos (3-phenyl-5-amino-1,2,4-triazolyl-(1)-( N, N'-tetramethyl), diamido phosphonate) is an acaricide, insecticide and systemic fungicide. Being a phosphoric ester it has cholinesterase-inhibiting properties. In a long-term feeding study over 2 years and a 3-generation reproduction study in rats at dietary levels of 0, 0.1, 0.5 and 2.5 ppm, cholinesterase inhibition was found at levels of 0.5 and 2.5 ppm in both experiments. Erythrocyte cholinesterase activity was more inhibited than plasma cholinesterase activity. Tumour incidence, reproductive performance and all other parameters examined in these studies did not disclose any other toxic effect related to the administration of the compound. The no-effect level of triamiphos in both studies was 0.1 ppm.
