Abstract
In spite of the methodical difficulties, it is obvious that the only way in which to choose those drugs that merit survival, from among the thousands of new drugs that appear every year on the market, is sound statistical evaluation. To illustrate this, the results are given of a test that was carried out in our department in order to compare 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide cream and 1% hydrocortisone cream. Favorable comments on triamcinolone were given by Baer, Robinson and Robinson, and J. G. Smith, Jr. Methods As corticosteroid ointments are in our opinion particularly useful in chronic itching dermatoses (chronic contact eczema, eczema nummulare, neurodermatitis, and dyshidrotic eczema), we choose for our experiments patients with similar eczemas that did not react to the standard treatment of our department. * In this way, we discarded most of the cases with a self-limited course.
