Abstract

Abstract Insecticidal trials were carried out during 1962-64 against black beetle (Heteronychus arator Blanchard) larvae and adults in pasture. Formulated as pellets, endrin and isobenzan at 8 and 16 oz/ac, and dieldrin at 4 and 8 oz/ac, all gave a high level of control of larvae in the second season (60 weeks after application). Little effect was obtained with the treatments in the season of appEcation. In small-plot experiments, pelleted endrin, isobeilzan, and heptachlor at dosages as low as 2 oz/ac were highly effective against the adult beetle 39 days after treatment. In similar experiments, high adult beetle mortality was obtained with the organophosphorous insecticides diazinon (Gesapon 5 G granular formulation) at 1 and 2 lb/ac, and Agritox (Bayer S4400 granular formulation) at 1 lb/ac, after 26 and 13 days respectively. Agritox at 8 oz/ac was partially effective.
