Abstract

(BJOG. 2016;123:940–945) Retrospective studies on vaginal deliveries for twin pregnancies have reported greater fetal risk, primarily for the second twin, than cesarean deliveries. The Twin Birth Study was a recent prospective, randomized study that assigned women to planned vaginal or cesarean delivery. It assessed the success rate and safety of vaginal delivery compared with cesarean delivery among a total of 2804 twin pregnancies. This study found that both delivery modes were equally safe; however, 43.8% of women in the planned vaginal delivery group ultimately delivered by cesarean section. The current investigators analyzed the success rate of trial of labor for twin pregnancies at their tertiary care medical center in Israel.
