Abstract
An effective system for triaging somaticizing patients out of the medical system and into a psychological system is proposed. The system is based on over 25 years of research performed in a Health Maintenance Organization setting. It is suggested that by involving "somaticizers" in a psychologica f system, therapeutic relief of pain, anxiety, and depression can be accomplished, as well as the reailzation of significant decreases in inappropriate medical utilization and reduction of psychiatric costs.
