Abstract
The list of known causes of developmental delay or intellectual disability is growing, with advanced molecular testing now allowing for the identification of the genetic origin of the condition in about 30–40% of patients.1 Developmental delay or intellectual disability occurs in about 3% of the population, and individuals with severe and profound developmental delay typically present within the first 2 years of life, either because of dysmorphic features or notable failure to reach developmental milestones.
