Abstract

Nursing has a dynamic history. Earlier, nursing was based on apprenticeship and observation. In the early times, nurses were trained and educated by physicians only. Formal methods of teaching-learning was started by the ‘Lady with the Lamp’- Florence Nightingale. Her contribution in the Crimea War led to modern nursing. Today’s nursing is par excellence with other professions which are based on evidence, best practices and application of theories and models. Research in nursing has made rich contribution to expand in the fields of health care, education, administration and research.
