Abstract

AbstractA review is given on some of the most important nonlinear optical phenomena. We discuss different fields of application as well as problems of more fundamental character. In particular we shall concentrate on short‐wavelength generation, multiphoton processes of very high order, nonlinear optical processes in dielectric waveguides, measurement of subpicosecond pulses, determination of second‐ and first‐order radiation functionals, optical bistability, nonlinear processes and noise reduction in optical communication systems, and nonlinear optical processes as potential ways for producing squeezed states.
