Abstract

Introduction: Elderly trauma patients have worse outcomes than similarly injured younger patients. Several studies have indicated that an early and aggressive approach during the resuscitative phase in the elderly improves outcomes. We sought to determine if there has been an improvement in mortality among elderly trauma patients over the last several years and to determine if mortality differed by level of trauma center care. Hypothesis: Mortality rates for elderly trauma patients have changed significantly over the last several years and level of trauma center care has been an independent predictor of elderly trauma patient mortality.
