Abstract
The paper summarizes the contributions on ceramic breeder development presented at ISFNT 2. Additionally a comparison with the state of the art is made. From this comparison conclusion in regard on further need in R&D are drawn. It is realized, that the knowledge of radiation defects and their influence on tritium release is unsufficient. Furtheron, the influence of surface reactions and dopants on the behavior of lithium ceramics needs further clarification. The design of blankets is far progressed. Now, critical points for further developments are identified. In this context the main emphasis in future will be on the increase of availability by improved designs using lesser welded joints and by improving the welding techniques itself.
