Abstract

# {#article-title-2} To the Editor: I read the article by Faulkner et al.1 with interest. In 1990, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved clinical neurophysiology (CNP) as an added qualification to the certification of a neurologist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).2 The rapid growth of technology and information has resulted in an additional 1-year PGY5 training program in CNP, which established this field as a definite area of subspecialization in neurology and psychiatry. It also provides the means to properly identify trained and experienced neurophysiologists.3 Many neurologists who trained before 1990 achieved board certification by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, American Society of EEG, and the ABPN Certification in CNP after completing PGY1–4 without an additional fellowship training year.
