Abstract

This article first considers all Italian national and local information sources dealing with alcohol consumption. Then the changes in amount and patterns of alcohol drinking which occurred in Italy during the last 30 years are examined. During the period of the 1970s to the 2000s wine intake dramatically decreased, while beer consumption, especially among youngsters, has increased. Also a decrease of risky drinkers and an increase in moderate drinkers is apparent.
