Abstract

Professor Eugene Egger of the Department of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Geneva provides in this article a reflective overview of the changes and the dynamics of change that have characterized Western European education during the past decade. Professor Egger's views are of particular interest because of his deep involvement in education on both the national and the international level. He is Secretary General of the Swiss Conference of Canton Directors of Public Education and Director of the Swiss Center for Documentation in Teaching and Education. He is also chairman of the steering committee making preparations for the Eighth European Conference of Ministers of Education, which will be held in Switzerland in 1973. Finally, he represents Switzerland on the Committee of General and Technical Education attached to the Office for Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Affairs of the Council of Europe and on the Committee on Education of the OECD.
