Abstract

The electric bus (E-bus) is a new concept of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient bus subsystem of public urban transport, which is increasingly present in many cities around the world. The introduction of this type of bus has a steady upward trend and is a major alternative to conventional buses. The paper gives a brief chronology of the most important events related to the application and introduction of electric buses around the world, the current state of the number of vehicles in operation, an overview of the electric bus market, and future directions of further development and implementation of this new concept in public transport, with a special emphasis on Europe.
