Abstract

Abstract The article deals with the effect of aerosol on solar radiation. Measured global and diffuse radiation at clear days in Bratislava from 1971 to 1989 is used to calculate direct solar radiation flux density at an assumed Sun height of 30 . Solar radiation attenuation by aerosol is calculated from these data. Radiation scattering by air molecules and radiation absorption by ozone and water vapour is considered. Average annual values of direct solar radiation flux density attenuation by aerosol ranged from 256 to 351 W m −2 , with a slight increase observed during this period.
