Abstract

To combat recreational drug use, there must be an understanding of the nature and pattern of both classic recreational drug and novel psychoactive substance (NPS) use. Collecting data on trends in consumption of NPS and classical recreational drugs is challenging. Traditional methods, such as surveys and waste-water analysis, have their flaws. The aim of this study was to determine trends in patterns of drugs detected using samples of urine collected from portable street urinals in London. In this study, 12 four-bay stand-alone urinals were placed in a busy nightlife area of London for a 12-h period each Friday and Saturday night.
