Abstract
This article takes a closer look at both the historical context and the political and economic orchestration of the Olympic Games in London – 1908, 1948 and 2012. By comparing the three events, a number of differences and game specific circumstances are demonstrated. On this basis the article concludes with a discussion of the status of the three London Games within the overall history of the Modern Olympics.

I juli og august 2012 blev der for tredje gang Den internationale olympiske komité (IOC) blev afholdt olympiske lege i London.1 Hovedstaden på Coubertins initiativ dannet i 1894, og de i den moderne sports moderland satte hermed første moderne lege i Athen 1896 var en rimeen ny olympisk rekord. 1936, der blev IOC og de olympiske leges hid- rindelig skulle have været vært i 1944 – var patil største manifestation med en iscenesættelse, rat til at påtage sig værtskabet for legene i 1948.
