Abstract

Conclusion: Obesity results in an increase in atrial TGF 1 and fibrosis with reduced Connexin43 expression resulting in conduction slowing, increased conduction heterogeneity and a propensity for AF. Infiltration of underlying atrial muscle by epicardial fat forms a unique component of the AF substrate due to obesity.Weight loss reverses these changes underscoring its importance in AF management. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.hlc.2013.05.002
