Abstract

Chronic pain is a major health problem and a common reason for seeking medical care. This analysis describes treatment-seeking patterns among adults with self-reported primary chronic lower back pain (CLBP) or chronic osteoarthritis (OA) pain. Subjects were identified from a cross-sectional Internet-administered survey of 27,035 respondents (response rate 75.7%) in a representative panel of US households. A subsample of individuals with chronic pain (lasting ≥ 6 months) was randomly selected to participate in an in-depth survey in July 2009.
