Abstract

e14532 Background: Gastric cancer is also the most common cancer and the second leading cause of death in South Korea. Acute Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) which manifests as a consumptive coagulopathy with severe bleeding, is a rare but severe complication of cancers. But, Advanced gastric cancer (AGC) appears to be one of the cancers which are most frequently associated with DIC. The treatment of cancer-related acute DIC is difficult and most patients die within 1–4 weeks. The key of treatment is the control of the underlying cancers. Effective chemotherapy of the underlying malignancy may be the only way to control acute DIC. We assessed the effect of chemotherapy agents as the primary treatment of AGC with DIC.
