Abstract

Objective To discuss clinical efficacy of reconstructive plates and shape memory alloy staples in the treatment of unstable pelvic fractures.Methods From February 2002 to December 2008,53 patients with unstable pelvic fracture were treated with reconstructive plates and shape memory alloy staples.They were 25 men and 28 women,aged from 17 to 76 years (average,41 years).According to the Tile classification,there were 34 cases of Tile B and 19 cases of Tile C.Results All the patients were followed up for an average of 24 months (range,form 6 to 48 months).According to the Matta evaluation system,46 patients obtained excellent reduction and 7 good reduction.By the Majeed evaluation system,37patients achieved excellent functional recovery,12 good and 3 fair,with a good to excellent rate of 92.5%.Conclusion Internal fixation with reconstructive plates and shape memory alloy staples is an effective treatment of unstable pelvic fractures.
