Abstract

Objective To discuss the techniques and clinical results of treatment of ulnar styloid process fractures. Methods From August 2001 to June 2006, 58 fractures of ulnar styloid process in 56 patients were treated with K-wire fixation combined with tension band. Results Postoperatively patients were followed for 1.5 to 18 months, with an average of 7 months. X-ray showed bone union in all cases. There was no chronic pain and impairment of wrist motion in 55 cases. One case experienced chronic wrist pain. Conclusion Fixation of ulnar styloid process fractures using K-wire and tension band is an ideal treatment option. It is especially effective in preventing distal ulnar pain.
