Abstract

Objective To observe the results of initial surgical treatment for patients with severe ocular trauma.Methods Twenty eyes of twenty patients with severe ocular trauma were treated with a series of operations including debridement and suture of global wound,vitrectomy,removal of foreign bodies under direct view,reattachment of detached retina and choroid,gas-liquid exchange and intraocular injection of antibiotics.Results The visual acuity was improved in 19 cases while the other one patient still had no light perception after surgery.The effective rate of therapy was 95%.Conclusion The initial comprehensive operation,with a combination of debridement and suture of wound,vitrectomy and retina and choroid reattachment,is an effective method in reserving eyeball and visual function for severe ocular trauma.
