Abstract
Abstract Potato cyst nematode is “undoubtedly the most serious plant nematode pest of temperate regions” (Southey 1965). Both species, Heterodera rostochiensis Woll. and H. pallida Stone, damage the potato crop and are extremely persistent in the soil. The resistant cyst wall makes encysted eggs and juveniles very difficult to kill. The cysts, each containing several hundred eggs, are readily transported in soil associated with seed or table potatoes and are thus easily spread.
