Abstract

Of the five factors of the aging face, photoaging produces the most profound changes over time. Treatment has been instituted in the past with tretinoin as well as sunscreen agents. Glycolic acid has been introduced onto the market by the cosmetic industry. This paper reports the treatment of photoaging combining a pharmaceutical agent (tretinoin), glycolic acid home products (cosmetic agents) and the glycolic acid chemical peel (in-office procedure). This represents the first true Cosmeceutical skin care programme utilizing products that are known to be both safe and effective for the treatment of photoaging in the hands of dermatologists who can now take the central role in not only the treatment of skin disease but also the prevention and treatment of the most common disease of all, that is, aging.
